Sledgefire shells are now available on HasbroToyShop.com at $4.99 for a pack of 3. It’s something we’ve known about for a little while now thanks to BackyardLazers on Reddit, but I wanted to actually get some in my hands to give a full report.
As I had assumed, these are refill shells and not a retail package. They don’t come with darts and they don’t come in a normal package as you can see in the image below.
It’s a little disappointing that I can’t go to my local Target and purchase these right off the shelf. I think this is a positive sign though; that they may decide to offer them in a retail setting at some point in the future and/or they may develop more blasters that use this shell.
If you happen to own a Sledgefire, click on over to HasbroToyShop and pick some up!
In this episode we talk a bit about the 2014 New York ToyFair and review more of the current Zombie Strike lineup including the Sidestrike, Crossfire, and Fusefire.
You can check out the images of the blasters we’ve been talking about after the break.
We’ve just received word of this interesting licensed accessory for tactical rails! The Nerf TekStrike is from EyeSpyToys, a company that I’ve never heard of was apparently behind Launch n’ Attack (thanks Vas of F2A), and who’s company website is currently just showing off this accessory. Check out FoamFromAbove for some photos of the ToyFair Booth, and here’s the media information directly from EyeSpyToys:
Product Overview Nerf TekStrike from EyeSpy Toys is an exciting new attachment for NERF blasters. With programmable Smart Darts, patented hit recognition technology and Bluetooth connectivity, Nerf TekStrike turns the backyard into an advanced wireless playing field.
The Nerf TekStrike Storm Shield attaches to any NERF blaster’s tactical rail and casts an invisible sensory grid over the entire playing field.
The Nerf TekStrike system works with Smart Darts, which each contain a programmable RFID chip.
Using Bluetooth and RFID technology, the Smart Darts can be tracked. As a dart hits the Storm Shield, the type of ammo it was hit with and who the shooter was, are recorded, displaying the damage on the built-in LCD screen and sending the appropriate HIT points to the shooter’s screen.
To start playing, select an ammo type, wirelessly program the Smart Darts by swiping against the Nerf TekStrike Storm Shield and then begin firing at the opponents shield, instantaneously being alerted of successful shots.
The single player training mode allows individuals to improve their accuracy to get ready for the next battle.
When players are ready for advanced battle scenarios, they can use a smart phone or tablet as a remote base to unlock new weapons, track team stats and select mission objectives – all available with the free Nerf TekStrike app download.
For the full video game experience, players can attach a smart phone to the Nerf TekStrike Storm Shield for GPS tracking, blaster upgrades, accuracy stats and more!

This, to me, is incredibly strange. Not that Hasbro is allowing Tactical rail accessories, we’ve known they might allow 3rd party licensing of tactical rail accessories for a little while now. But that it uses Bluetooth and RFID to track darts and sense them. This is basically a re-vamped, 3rd party dart tag device. And the weird thing is that it’s relatively inexpensive considering the technology involved.
Toy fair has only been open for a day, and already we’ve seen a number of new and awesome things! Thanks to Vas at Foam From Above for being our primary source of information at ToyFair! Blasterlabs is there as well, and we’re looking forward to their perspective on the products shown as well!
We’ll be providing our analysis of the new products that have been shown at toyfair this week alongside our episode of The AFoN Show Episode 53: Zombie Strike Part 2! So for now, stay tuned to our seasoned Toy Fair Expert, Vas from Foam From Above for your up-to-the-minute information!
The Predator features rapid slam firing, with ranges exceeding 100 feet. It holds up to 100 ‘NRG’ rounds, more than any other reusable ammo blaster. To help enhance the Tek Recon experience, a newly designed magazine that allows for rapid loading firing will be introduced to enhance the battle experience. The Predator comes equipped with six accessories; including scopes and LED targeting technology that can be customized and mounted on tactical rails. ….In addition to the Predator blaster, new accessories for 2014 include different performance ‘NRG’ rounds, like Long and Soft shots. These special rounds come in a variety of colors and provide more customization for the fans.
Now they’re not exactly correct with the claim that 100 rounds is “more than any other reusable ammo blaster”. The Nerf N-Strike Elite Hail-Fire is capable of carrying up to 144 darts when used in concert with 18-round clips.
With this new blaster comes several accessories such as scopes and led lights, as well as a re-designed clip and phone cradle. We’re hoping it isn’t as frustrating as the older version, and actually fits more than just caseless iPhones.
There also hasn’t been any word if they’ve fixed any of the problems that occurred with their first two blasters like poor accuracy or difficult firing. I’m not really sold on their new ammo types either. They still don’t really solve the main problem caused by the old ammo: being super small and hard to find. The new ammo that I’ve seen is yellow and blue (one is a little stronger, and the other softer), and I really don’t think that that color change will make them easier to find.
I’m obviously not a fan of Tek Recon’s offerings, but I’m totally willing to change my opinion if they’ve actually made positive changes to their designs. I’ll be picking this up to review it, at least.
Greetings Nerf Nation! Deliberations are completed and after hours and hours of discussions we have finally found the winners of our Anniversary Giveaway. We were quite impressed with the inspiring and well thought out entries you all sent in. There were a few ideas that followed common themes which in all honestly we kinda expected, and it’s nice to know that so many of you share similar views as to the direction you would like to see Nerf go. It took a while but two bright shiny entries floated to the top, here they are in no particular order:
The Elite Mega Pilum submitted by James Zhu- The concept for this single shot pump action Mega Dart launcher is simple and elegant in execution. As seen in the picture below, “It has a trigger set very far back on the blaster and rear Nerf stock attachment point and comes with a faux wooden stock.” But that’s only where the fun begins; the top tactical rail attachment is described as being inverted similar to the rail on the Titan that the Scout slides into. “This allows instant integration of Pilum onto any tactical rail equipped blaster once its stock is removed.” The Pilum took a popular discussion piece and gave us a practical application for a dual purpose blaster.
The Elite Mega Executioner submitted by Matthew Corrigan – One common thread between the entries was removable dart cylinders. The concept for the Executioner goes one step further and truly makes that mechanic the focal point of the blaster. “The barrel has a break in the end of the cylinder to have it pulled out. The break release button is located or the left side of the blaster.” The cylinder holds 5 Mega Darts and can be slit out when empty after the break so you can reload with ease.
Congratulations Matthew and James!! You should be receiving your Elite Pinpoint Sights (one for each of you) in good time! We want to thank all of you for participating in our Giveaway. We hope you had fun making your entries.
News of this little guy surfaced yesterday on other sites, so we are a little slow on the draw, but here’s our first look at the Nerf Zombie Strike Doublestrike.
At first glance this blaster looks like a pretty typical two shot derringer pistol. the Doublestrike’s unique feature is its hammer priming mechanism like that on the Hammer Shot. It appears as though the Doublestrike will fire one dart at a time each of its two barrels, hinting at a dart sensing mechanism similar to the Elite Roughcut/Triad. Size wise it appears to be somewhere between the N-Strike Scout/Zombie Strike Side Strike and the Elite Triad. From the pic and description, we here at AFoN are excited for this addition to the Zombie Strike line. Being able to truly dual wield blasters now, prime and fire one handed is proving to be a fantastic development in Nerf’s ever growing arsenal of awesome.
NERF ZOMBIE STRIKE DOUBLESTRIKE Blaster
(Ages 8 years & up/Approx. Retail Price: $9.99/Available: Fall 14)
When zombies are on the loose, double dart firing power is a necessity. Load two ZOMBIE STRIKE darts into the DOUBLESTRIKE blaster, pull back on the hammer mechanism, and fire to unleash both darts in a row! Blaster includes two ZOMBIE STRIKE darts. Available at most retailers nationwide and HasbroToyshop.com.
More will be said on this blaster as new info comes on the scene so stay tuned here for more info and opinions on your favorite new blasters.
